About CERES SEOG

Who We Are

The Sustainability Education Outreach Group (SEOG) is made up of a group of committed sustainability educators from CERES who work with schools and local community groups throughout Victoria and other parts of Australia. We currently have 11 team members including 2 regional facilitators.

Our Mission Statement

CERES Sustainability Education Outreach Group (SEOG) shares the values and practices of CERES Community Environment Park with other communities. Our programs support environmental sustainability, social equity, cultural diversity and community participation in order to help create a healthy planet and a socially just society.

What We Do

SEOG provides Incursions, Sustainable Schools programs and support for communities through workshops, professional development, joint planning, consultancy and mentoring.

Sustainable Communities

We provide consultancy services and mentoring for community groups who are creating CERES-type centres around Australia, ranging from neighbourhood houses to large site development. We have also worked with other centres in Melbourne to produce ‘A Travellers’ Guide to Eco Centres’.

CERES Incursions

Instead of visiting CERES, our Incursions bring CERES to you. Incursions takes education experiences out to schools and community groups. Workshops encompass Education for Sustainability (EfS) and cover a broad range of environmental themes such as Energy, Waste, Biodiversity and Water. Our flagship is the Energy Trailer which is heavily booked by schools, local government and community groups. For more information, please visit the CERES Incursions page.

Sustainable Schools

SEOG established the original Victorian Sustainable Schools program in 1999. We are now the main deliverer of the ResourceSmart Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic) program across the State. The program reduces water use, greenhouse gas emissions and solid waste output in schools. Over 500 Victorian schools have already participated in the framework. Through the program, schools become demonstration centres of environmental technologies, designs and behaviours, They also develop a sustainability curriculum and enriched connections to the local community.

About the Sustainability Hub

SEOG depends on building working networks and partnerships with government at all levels, other sustainability education organisations, community groups and business. We also work closely with government agencies and departments and are involved in reference groups, steering committees and ongoing advice to government. It is only through these relationships that we can help the environment and achieve our sustainability goals. The CERES Sustainability Hub was created by SEOG in 2010 to support sustainability networks and story sharing.
