Glossary

Sustainable Schools - term first used by CERES when working with a small number of Nillumbik schools in 1999-2000

Victorian Sustainable Schools Initiative (SSI) - pilot developed by CERES and Gould League that ran between 2000 - 2005

CERES Sustainable Schools Initiative (CERES SSI) - supported by Councils, fee paying schools and the DEECD's Strategic Partnerships program 2006 - 2007. Merged into…

Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI) - (Federal Government) and the local Victorian version AuSSI Vic.

ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic Schools - this is now the central Sustainable Schools program in Victoria. Connects to DEECD initiatives and to the National Solar Schools Plan. ResourceSmart will apply to a range of organisations in Victoria such as ResourceSmart Schools- Waste and the Core Module. ResourceSmart Schools, financed by Sustainability Victoria, merges with and complements the AuSSI Vic framework.

Planet Savers School - the energy and core modules delivered in 50 schools by local Greenhouse Alliances, CERES, Planet Savers and Carbonetix with support from councils from North Eastern Victoria and the Western Port locality and the Australian Greenhouse Office.

Carbon Sink Schools - pilot funded through AuSSI to explore, with 20 leading schools, the implications of becoming carbon neutral and carbon sinks.

ZeroWaste Schools - the Sustainable Schools aligned program, financed by Sustainability Victoria and the Mornington Peninsula Shire and delivered by CERES in 53 Mornington Peninsula Shire Schools.
