SCHOOL PROJECT UPLOAD GUIDELINES
Members wanting to upload school projects should follow
the project guidelines listed below:
- Create the Document in Word
It is recommended that you write your document in
Word (or another word processor or even in a web publisher)
and then cut and paste it into the project upload
box when ready. You can type the text directly
into the online editor, but unless you save your work
regularly, the information will be lost if your internet
browser closes unexpectedly or your computer crashes.
Your school case study on the module of your choice
(energy, waste, water, biodiversity or community)
should include some quantitative statistics on the
changes which have occurred at your school as a result
of participation in AuSSI as well as information about
the projects you have been completing. Use the following
questions as a guide for writing up your project:
1. What current sustainability activities are you
undertaking?
2. What have been the most rewarding projects you
have undertaken while completing the relevant RSS
AuSSI Vic module (which you are writing this case
study about)?
3. What figures do you have (eg reduction in energy
use, water use, waste production or improvements
in biodiversity) to show sustainability improvements
in your school? For example, if you are uploading
a project on energy, then you should mention, for
example, the change in total energy consumption
for the school per year or the amount of energy
used per student per year (e.g. % change) over the
period of time since your baseline data was collected.
4. How have you incorporated sustainability/ environmental
education into your curriculum?
5. What have been the benefits of joining RSS AuSSI
Vic?
6. What are the future plans for sustainability
projects at your school?
Schools uploading community projects may like to include
information on how the sustainable schools initiative
has increased community participation at the school,
(this may or may not be quantitative data).
Remember to press the 'return' key on your keyboard
twice at the end of each paragraph to ensure that
each paragraph appears with a line of space between
them.
Please proof read and spell-check the document before
uploading it as spelling and grammatical errors will
not be corrected during assessment of the content
by the webmaster.
- Log into the Sustainability Hub
Click on the Login button on the right hand side of
the Sustainability Hub menu bar and log in using your
user name and password. If you don't already have
a user name and password for the Sustainability Hub
please click on the register
button on the right hand side of the Sustainability
Hub menu bar to start the registration process.
- Create/ Edit Your Project
Once you have logged into the Sustainability Hub you
will then need to click on either the 'add project'
button (if it's a new project) or the 'edit project'
button (if its an existing project) to proceed.
When adding a new project, please complete the Title,
Author and Category fields in the space provided.
For the 'Content' field (where you write about your
project), please cut and paste your project text in
(from word) or type it in directly. If you don't
type something in the content field you will not be
able to save the project until you do so!
IMPORTANT: Once you have typed something into
the content field, click on the grey 'save project'
button at the bottom of the screen. If you don't
type something in the content field you will not be
able to save the project until you do so! You
may modify and preview your project at any time after
you have saved it.
The following Character limits are enforced for the
projects:
- 'Title'
text field. The maximum number of characters,
including spaces, is 150, minimum 1.
- 'Author'
text field. The maximum number of characters,
including spaces, is 150, minimum 1.
- 'Content'
text field. There is no character limit for project
descriptions but you must have something typed
into this field.
- Continue Editing Your Project
Once you have successfully saved your project for
the first time you will then be taken to another screen.
This new screen has contact detail fields that need
to be completed for the project- all of these fields
except the website field need to be completed.
Once you have completed these details click on the
'save project' button- if you are experiencing 'validation
errors' check that the details you have entered are
correct. The two most common errors are not entering
the area code for your school phone number or not
putting in a valid email address. Once you have fixed
the error(s) then click on the 'save project' button
again.
Contact information will automatically be inserted
at the bottom of your page according to what you entered
into the compulsory fields when you set up the project.
You can go back to change these at any time in the
edit project area.
After you have entered all of your contact details
continue editing your project content. Please see
the information below on how to attach images, files,
tables, links and email addresses etc.
- Images
Uploading photos to the website indicates that you
have permission to use the photo on the Internet from
both the person whose photo has been uploaded and
from the photographer. You cannot rotate the image
once in the editor so this needs to be done in another
program (e.g. Photoshop) before uploading.
- Click on
the insert/edit image icon on the editor toolbar;
a dialogue box will then appear.
- Go to the
Upload tab, click on the browse button, find the
image you would like to upload in the file directory
and click on open. Once you have done this
then click on the Send it to the server box to
upload it to your project. The name of the
file will then show up in the URL box in the Image
info tab.
- Next go
to the Image Info tab.
- The
image should be a reasonable size; we recommended
a maximum size of 200 pixels wide by 200 pixels
high. However, images that require high detail
may need to be up to 400 x 400 pixels. You
can play with this to suit the image- you
can see it changing in the image preview box. Please
use Photoshop to edit the size of the photos.
- Image
borders can be added by putting a number 0.5
or greater into the border box. The
space between the image and surrounding text
can be manipulated by putting numbers into
the hspace and vspace boxes- you can see the
borders and space around the image changing
in the image preview box.
- Please
add a brief description of the image into
the Alternative text box.
- If you
would like to add a link (URL) to the picture
(when you click on it) go to the Link tab and
add it to the URL box. For the Target choose
New window (blank).
- Tables
If you need to add a table to the document you can
add it to your page in one of two ways:
- Cut and
paste it from a word document using the Paste
from word function on the editor toolbar.
You can change the font by highlighting the text
in each cell individually and choosing the style
you require.
- Create
the table using the Insert/edit Table function
on the editor toolbar. Here you can manipulate
the height and width of the cells, the border
size, alignment and also give the table a caption.
You can change the font by highlighting the text
in each cell individually and choosing the style
you require.
- Links
Links can be added to text or images (for how to put

the link to be attached to.

to upload it to the server. Once you have done this,

• Anchor in this page
This allows users to link down to a place further
down in your page without having to scroll through
all the writing- when the link is clicked upon the
cursor ends up at the place on the screen where
the anchor was placed.
a. You will first of all need to place an anchor
into the document- place the cursor where you want
the anchor, then click on the insert/edit anchor
icon on the editor toolbar; a dialogue box will
then pop up.
b. Name the anchor and then click OK.

- Contact Information
Contact information will automatically be inserted
at the bottom of your page according to what you entered
into the compulsory fields when you set up the project.
You can go back to change these at any time.
- Publishing your Project
After you have finished cutting and pasting your information
into the project box, uploading images, making links
to uploaded documents and SAVING your project, you
are then ready to publish your project! Well done!
Simply click on the publish link (just below the SAVE
button towards the top of the page) and the Sustainability
