Balwyn Primary School
Balwyn Primary School strives to become a Sustainable School.
Our 'You Can Do It' program encourages students to have a go and we are using this approach to work towards a much more sustainable school.
Balwyn Primary School is currently employing a number of initiatives within our school community. This year we have moved into our new eco-friendly Early Years Learning Centre that has sustainable heating and cooling systems, water recylcing tanks and energy efficient motion sensor lighting.
Other initiatives that Balwyn Primary School has introduced include our Wonderful Wormery that classes look after and feed with their worm friendly food scraps. The Junior School Council has taken on the challenge of raising awareness of sustainability practices within the wider school community and in Term 3 we started a Student Action Team called " The Green Thumbs". Recently parents and teachers have developed a plan to build a sustainable kitchen garden in some recently freed up space. Classrooms and administration teams all have paper and cardboard recycling bins that are monitored by students.
Teachers have developed a school sustainability policy.
