Family Waste Tracker Games: Playground

3rd May 2017 BY: info@gould.edu.au

Playground contains a series of online interactive games, and some downloadable games and activity sheets for early learners and primary school students. There are 3 levels to work through! These games are designed to be played at school or at home.

Here’s some background to how they came to be:

City of Boroondara Council in partnership with the Gould League (www.gould.org.au) delivered an exciting waste minimisation pilot project to ten schools and early education centres in Boroondara in 2014. The project was supported with funding from the Metropolitan Local Government Waste and Resource Recovery Fund. Additional project support was provided by Sustainable Resource Use (SRU).

The aim of the Waste Smart Schools and Families Project was to test new approaches to engaging schools, early education centres and their families in practices and behaviours to reduce waste going to landfill (especially organic waste), as well as recycling. Schools and early education centres taking part in the pilot worked towards accreditation in the AuSSI Vic Waste Module.

A series of take-home activities and fun interactive games were created exclusively for this program, and are now available for all teachers and families to use online with their children to explore and learn more.

Please note: only schools and early education centres taking part in the pilot project have been provided with a login to access the Family Waste Tracker Tool here: https://familywastetracker.com/
