Waste is a word we used for unwanted materials. But this term can be both subjective and inaccurate because waste to one person is
not waste to another! There are 4Rs for action about waste (and these are hierarchical):
To help understand the impact of “stuff”, CERES Education utilises ‘Life Cycle Thinking’ to explore where something comes from, where it is produced, what it’s packaged in, how it is used and what happens to it once we don’t want it any more. Transport, energy and pollution can also be investigated as well as which people are part of the process.
Research shows that if people will be less likely to throw out a product if they can appreciate the materials, energy (carbon) and time involved in making it in the first place.
