Powerful Voices of Today – Albert Park College

This month we feature Ella Simons from ResourceSmart School, Albert Park College.

Ella Simons,
Year 7 Student
Albert Park College

1. Why is it so important to act on climate change?

The reason I am acting on the climate crisis is because it will destroy the world and if we don’t have a planet to live on, we have nothing. We are fighting for climate justice as it is not fair that the people that create the problem get affected the least and the people that don’t create the problem get affected the most. Climate change will affect us all in different ways and a different times, right now the pacific island communities are drowning as the sea levels rise and soon we will feel our winters getting shorter and hotter.

2. What would you like to tell Australian leaders?

I would like to tell our Australian politicians that this is not okay and they need to act now. Our time is ticking and people are already being affected so we need you to act. We need you to think about others for once and not just about yourself. This is the future of your children, grandchildren, future generations and most of all the entire planet. Just stop and listen to what the youth and all others fighting for our planet have to say, we have solutions.

Joining a movement will connect you to like minded people and there is nothing more rewarding then seeing people come together to fight for something they believe in.

3. What is your message to motivate others to join the climate movement?

We need everyone who can to come join the climate movement, this is and is going to affect every living thing on this planet. So, stand up and be a leader. Joining a movement will connect you to like minded people and there is nothing more rewarding then seeing people come together to fight for something they believe in. So why not take a chance and come join us on the fight for Climate Justice.

If you know an young passionate person (it could be a student, your son, daughter, neice, nephew, neighbour…) who you’d like to nominate to share some words of wisdom about the future, please contact us on outreach@ceres.org.au.
