Biodiversity Audit @ OLOL

In September 2011 year 5 students (and our Year 6 Sustainabilty Student Action Team) participated in a biodiversity audit around the school. With the help of Mrs Fella, Mrs Nicholls and Jim from CERES, we broke into groups and surveyed our school grounds in different areas of biodiversity such as logs and rocks, environmental weeds, habitat extras, tree management, understorey and vegetation and organic litter. We also took out the iPads and – using the ‘Melbourne Museum Field Guide’ application – located flora and fauna around the school grounds and found out lots of interesting facts using this amazing technology. After we surveyed the school grounds we came together to create an action plan to make our school more biodiverse.
