Composting at St Andrews
Year Two are proud to have composting as their school service, and this year is our second year in running composting.
Across the Junior school and the Year 5 & 6 classes, each class puts their compost scraps in their own class bin. The Year Two’s then are responsible for collecting and emptying these bins into the compost, and then cleaning the bins.
Composting fits into our Term Two topic of sustainability and recycling, and we are able to then practically apply what we learn in class to our school.
Year Two’s are able to identify what belongs in the compost and what should be recycled, reused, reduce or put in land fill rubbish.
The garden club is then able to use our compost in their gardens and understand the application of composting.
