Disposable Coffee Cup Recycling Challenge

Since ‘War on Waste’ informed us of the inability of most disposable coffee cups to be recycled, our staff are still finding the convenience tempting. So, I decided to explore this myself with a group of keen students. We soaked a maccas cup for a week to soften the paper component of the cup with the aim to remove the plastic coating. Failed. So, we recommend to BYO a coffee cup or only source Biocups.

Left is the plastic with adhered paper, on the right, 50% of the paper recovered that could be recycled.
