Down at the greenhouse students have been investigating the benefits of a community garden as well as how CaSO4.2H2O (calcium sulphate dihydrate) commonly known as gypsum, helps to improve heavy clay soil as well as unlocking the valuable minerals and nutrients locked up in the clay. We have moved an old whiteboard down to the greenhouse, to allow it to be used as a classroom and provide theory based learning prior to the experiential learning that follows. The links and understanding students have made using this approach have been brilliant and with both primary and secondary students utilising this space, the whole school approach to sustainability is slowly being realised!
