We love planting at Barton PS, and with the addition of 3 brand new raised planting boxes at our school, and the help of the warmer weather, the Grade 5/6 students have been able to get their hands (gloves) dirty and begin planting some vegetables.
Students did some research prior to planting about what grew well in our climate, what grew well together, and the specific planting requirements of each of the vegetables. As a cohort we decided on cauliflower, beetroot, spinach and lettuce.
Students were divided into planting teams and we headed out to our planting boxes for some fun in the sun!
Miss Dunstan was thrilled as she finally got to wear her strawberry planting hat.
Although it will be a few weeks yet before we see major growth we are thrilled to be seeing the beginnings of tiny seedlings poking through our soil.
Stay tuned for more information about our planting boxes and the growth of our vegetables!
