Integrating the curriculum

Here at BMG, we are extremely privileged to have such an amazing staff and student body. As the weather slowly starts to fine up and the sun pushes through the clouds, the Gardening Group, VCAL, Year 10 Mathematics students and a host of volunteer staff and students, have come down to the greenhouse to get their daily dosage of vitamin D. A mountain of dirt has been moved into the garden beds and they are prepped and ready to plant out. The “Herb Triangle” is slowly being chipped back to remove weeds and prepare the way for a recycled weed mat (newspaper) and natural soil improvers (plenty of decomposed mixed animal manures).

Some of the volunteer students and mathematics students have all contributed into calculating the estimated water usage and water catchment area for our storage tanks, and according to these calculations and the size of our tanks, we should have plenty of water to use on the garden during the dry summer months in Bacchus Marsh.

A huge thanks goes those who have given up their time to help out at lunchtime, as well as staff and students who have enthusiastically embraced the sustainability ethos and integrated this into their everyday learning and teaching.
