Life Cycles at Nunawading Christian College

There was a buzz of excitement and anticipation in the Year 1 and 2 classrooms. The chickens were hatching. Before school, recess, lunch and after school students came into the classrooms to observe the process of chickens hatching. There was excitement as the eggs broke and the chickens emerged wet and tired…and disappointment as out of 12 eggs, only 9 hatched. However, the excitement only got more intense as the children took turns to take the chicks home at night.

A permanent home has now been made for our chicken family. They have settled in and love having daily visits from the students who collect recess and lunch food scrapsfor the chickens to devour. We can’t wait for them to start laying eggs!
