Lumen Christi Churchill – Students Lead School to Save Energy
We helped with an energy audit for the school last year and from it we worked out ways we can help to reduce our energy usage. We had some ‘lights off’ signs around the school, but when we had our World Environment Activities Day we made more and chose the best ones to put up around the rest of the school. Some of our Environment Team check classes for lights and computers at lunch and recess. Everyone is becoming much more conscious about ‘switching off’. Since having our solar panels installed we keep a check of the energy produced and report to the school once a week at our assembly.
Written by students in the Environment Team (Grade 5 at Lumen Christi, Churchill). These students also talk at school assemblies once a week about turning lights off, computers off, they check classrooms for heating levels and other energy efficiency activities.
