On Thursday October 13, eleven students from the 5/6 area travelled to the BMW Edge Theatre at Federation Square to perform in Water Week Idol. This is an annual event where schools come together and express, through music and dance, the importance of looking after our waterways. This year, 9 primary schools competed in the day-long concert in which each school performed a song (some with dancers) based on themes about conserving water. Our school’s contribution was an original song titled Water Respect and featured voice, guitar, keyboard, several percussion instruments as well as 3 dancers. The panel of judges complemented our performers on the quality of song lyrics, the skilful singing, the clever and tasteful incorporation of percussion, their visual presence and many other positive aspects of the piece. Our students had a great day watching all the acts, and although we approached the event in a non-competitive spirit, we were awarded 2nd prize based on the quality of the performance. The school has received a $500 voucher to spend on water-conserving items. Well done to our performers!
