In 2013, Naranga School undertook the ResourceSmart AuSSI Vic Core Module with funding from Frankston City Council and Sustainability Victoria.

2013 Naranga School - Garden 1 2013 Naranga School - Garden 2As part of our sustainability program celebrations, Senior Food Tech students from Naranga School gathered produce on the Friday to take and set up a display on the Saturday at the Mornington Community Garden Open Day.

Our produce included beetroot, broad beans, potatoes, silver beet, and preserved olives.

We shared information about our vegetable gardens through our photos, which included how the garden beds were first set up, successes and problems, evidence of compost bin use and worm farm set up and in use, sample of worm tea.

Naranga School was able to network with other schools attending and view the 100 garden plots and talk to owners. The Naranga School students involved showcased the produce at the Open Garden’s morning assembly and the produce was then incorporated into recipes.

2013 Naranga School - Garden 4Naranga was presented with a tray of seedlings from Scotsburn nursery, a wall garden kit
from Bunnings and a certificate of appreciation for our participation. We will be purchasing seedlings directly from them in the future.

It was a great opportunity to showcase to the wider community how the Middle School and Senior School kitchen gardens have taken off after two years.

We look forward to doing the Energy Module in 2014.
