NHS attend the Northern Metropolitan Sustainability Fair

On Monday 22nd of April, representatives from our Green Team, senior green captain Sam Scholten, junior green captain Indigo Tolhurst, Iman Azzubair and Sam Hughes attended the Northern Metropolitan Region’s Sustainability Fair at Epping Primary School. The event provided an opportunity for our region’s most environmentally passionate students to network, share their ideas for creating more sustainable schools and to highlight the successes of Epping Primary School’s sustainable initiatives. The day opened with a showcase of organizations and providers of sustainable programs that can assist and support schools to create more sustainable environments, behaviours and habits at school. Students were then taken for a thought provoking tour of the school grounds highlighting the school’s hen house, kitchen garden, 12 water tanks, 40 solar panels, sensory garden, waste reduction facilities and energy reduction practices. The day closed with students planning a project for implementation and receiving a pledge shrub to be planted at our school. The grim weather did not distract from a day that was incredibly motivating, exciting, inspiring and insightful. We realized, that while we have made some fantastic sustainable changes at NHS, we still have a long way to go towards our goal of being the most sustainable school in the Victoria!
