In April last year (2010) we began the development of our school’s vegetable garden. With the generous donation of time and materials, Epping Fences and Gates assisted a number of staff in the construction of four garden beds and a fence for the area. Over the past year and a half, students have planted a huge variety of vegetables and flowers, maintained the area by weeding, eaten the produce that has grown and sold some of the produce to families and staff. The money raised from these sales is used to purchase new seedlings for the next planting. At the moment we are growing parsley, celery, broccoli and carrots. Students are able to take part in the ‘Garden Club’ one lunchtime a week- this is a rostered ‘yard duty’ for the supervising teacher. The initial start up of the project was made possible by donations from our School Council and Bunnings, as well as a grant from Coles and Junior Landcare
