Solway Primary School participated in the 2011 Rubbish Free Challenge and once again it was a successful day resulting in reduction of waste. The Environment Team worked hard to advertise the challenge day before the event and spent two lunch times collecting and measuring the different types of waste. Together with teachers, they compiled the final report.

Once again we managed to reduce our total waste, and we noticed that our recycling habits have improved. Well done Solway!

General feedback from students indicated it is just as easy to bring a Rubbish Free Lunch as it was to bring a lunch with wrappers or packets in it.

We now have classroom waste stations and doing the challenge made us realise we need to do more education in the classrooms about what waste can go into the different bins that are now available for recycling. This is something the Environment Team can work on in 2011.
