Solway Primary School 5Star Accreditation 2012

Solway joined the ResourceSmart Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI Vic) in 2008. We achieved our first star in 2009 and since then the school community has worked hard to meet the AuSSI Vic program targets, and in June 2012 we were awarded 5Star Accreditation.

This achievement was a whole school collaboration. Our Environment Captains together with their Team, were active in promoting initiatives, programs and competitions throughout the school and the value of living sustainably to the wider school community. Teachers have worked hard to successfully integrate sustainability into our curriculum and the Sustainability Committee have lent support to programs and initiatives at the school.

We celebrated our 5Stars at a whole school Assembly where everyone wore green for the day. We were presented with our Award by Stan Krpan, CEO Sustainability Victoria. Members of the Boroondara Sustainable Education Team also came along to help us celebrate.

From the Environment Captains, “We had a lot of fun times being the Environment Captains. One of them would have to be the visit to Alphington Primary School. They had A LOT of interesting ways of helping the environment. Our other favourite part was getting the 5Stars – that was a REAL achievement for us.” (Andy & Chan 2012 Environment Captains).
