Training programs in 2017

It’s hard to think that we’re already halfway through 2016. Where did that time go?
For the super organised teachers and educators already planning for next year, check out the following programs available in 2017.

VET in Schools (Garden to Plate Education)

CERES offers Certificate II in Horticulture (AHC20410) and Certificate II Kitchen Operations (SIT20312) on-site at CERES Community Environment Park for students in Years 10-12 undertaking VCAL or VCE and who are keen for a hands-on, immersion learning experience. Both our courses embed the dynamics of sustainability throughout the program and provide personalised learning in small groups.

Certificate II in Horticulture @ CERES

For those students who enjoy working outdoors our Horticulture program ensures involvement in the full garden cycle from planting the seed to harvesting the crops and getting involved with building and landscape projects. Our course introduces students to career options such as gardening, landscaping, nursery, propagation and parks management and fosters a love of gardening and plants. Students develop a range of skills that are transferable to further study and have some fun along the way!
Our current talented group of 2016 students have been busy:

  • Learning to be OHS savvy around the farm and site
  • Planting winter vegetables and herbs and harvesting rocket and lettuce
  • Identifying plants by their characteristics

The students’ next major project will be landscaping a bog garden to provide habitat for frogs.

Certificate II in Kitchen Operations @ CERES

Students learn kitchen skills whilst preparing freshly harvested produce from our gardens and locally sourced organic produce from our own Market and Grocery. After their hard work in the kitchen students get to enjoy their own cooking and celebrate newly developed skills over shared meals. The course introduces students to career options such as being a breakfast cook, catering assistant, sandwich hand or take-away cook. With further study and/or experience future career opportunities include barista, chef, caterer and working in the hotel industry.
