Tree Planting Day 2016

Mill Park Heights Primary School participated in the National Tree Planting Day for schools. Together with schools all around Australia, each class planted three trees and bushes to create more places for birds and animals to live in. There was a mixture of flowering plants and trees like Ericas, Kangaroo Paws and Woolly Jumbuck trees.

The Environmental Tacklers team did a terrific job teaching the students how to plant a tree, place a guard around it and then care for it.

South Morang Toyota donated $500 so that we could buy the trees for Tree Planting Day. They also donated stakes and tree guards to keep the trees protected until they get a bit bigger. They parked two of their hybrid cars at the front of the school for parents and students to look at and discuss hoe these cars are better for the environment.

Peter Grenfell from Darebin Creek Management Committee also came out and helped on the day. He spoke with the children about the animals and plants that are indigenous to the area. and helped with the planting of the trees.
