Rubbish was a real problem at Hamilton North Primary School. We were placing 13 bins for kerbside collection every week. $11 per bin, per week. $133 per week. A problem we identified was that our bins were not being completely filled before being collected. We labeled the bins 1-13. We spoke to all students and cleaning staff. We filled bin number 1 before we could move onto bin number 2. This reduced our bins slightly. The next problem we identified through a bin audit was the amount of paper towel being placed into our bins. To reduce this we installed hand dryers into all toilets. This has been a huge reduction in our bins. We are placing only 4-5 bins for kerbside collection per week. $40-$50 per week. Saving our school lots of money.
