Worm Farm
The year two’s have continued their sustainability unit with introducing a worm farm to the school. The incursion involved looking at worms under a microscope and understanding how they lived.
They also looked at the environments worms love best and how to care for a worm farm.
Our bin has up to 1000 worms in it, and will be fed with the compost they collect and with old newspaper.
We also spent part of the day creating compost tubes, which are long tubes which get put into the ground for students to place their compost into. These were decorated with either ‘nature’ colours or Aboriginal patterns and colours. Hopefully, these will help take compost out of the general rubbish, and also help decorate the school yard.
It was a great learning experience and the Year Two’s are excited to have worms as part of their composting responsibilities.
