Program: Council services to schools

This program supports sustainability practices in schools and contributes to council’s environment and sustainability goals.

Connects to the following modules of ResourceSmart Schools: Biodiversity, Waste

Accessible to schools in the following Melbourne metropolitan regions: Southern

Appropriate for students in:
Primary – Prep to Grade 2,
Primary – Grade 3 to Grade 6
Secondary – Year 7 to Year 10

What is offered to schools:

1. Environment Department (David Westlake):
> Up to 10 schools funded participation in Dolphin Research Centre’s ‘i sea, i care’ program

> Environment sustainability grant (opening April 1st 2014) – funding up to $2,000 for projects that align with Council’s Sustainability Plan

2. Waste Department (Abbie Lane):
> Free council collection of up to 8 bins (fortnightly) — no paper in bins, just co-mingled recycling. A council officer will also come and talk to staff about what can go in bins (and they can teach students) to avoid contamination.
> Waste themed student incursions and staff workshops — if a school has a structured sustainability program or learning program (not a once off) — upon request
> Quarterly e-newsletter
> City of Casey grants email to outline other opportunities for schools –
